HOUSTON — PETRONAS’ first floating liquefied natural gas facility, PFLNG SATU moored by SOFEC, Inc.’s external turret has achieved an industry breakthrough with the successful production of its first drop of LNG from Kanowit gas field, offshore Sarawak on Dec. 5, 2016. PFLNG SATU achieved the first gas milestone with the introduction of gas from the KAKG-A central processing platform on Nov. 14, 2016. It is anticipated that the first commercial offtake will be in the first quarter of 2017.
PFLNG SATU has an LNG production capacity of 1.2 MMtpa and is moored in the offshore field by an external turret and mooring system designed and supplied by SOFEC, Inc. A twelve leg (3×4) mooring system is currently used to moor the vessel in 75 m water depth. The high quality and flexible turret design allows the vessel to be redeployed to additional locations, to unlock other marginal and stranded gas fields in Malaysian waters at water depths between 70 m to 200 m for up to 20 years without dry docking.
