TEHRAN, Apr. 23 (Shana) — The Islamic Republic of Iran will materialize a gas export deal with Georgia within a month, said Gholamreza Bagheri Moghaddam, the head of General Department of CIS and Caucasus Countries of the Foreign Ministry of Iran.
“Georgia stated that it will start implementing gas imports deal within a month,” the head of the department said, reported Azernews.
This visit was held at the invitation of the Georgian high-ranking diplomats on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the independence of the former Soviet republics.
In July 2016, Ali Reza Kameli, managing director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) confirmed that Tehran has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the GIEC to export gas to the country within a 4-month period.
Currently, Azerbaijan is the main supplier of gas to Georgia. Small volumes are also supplied from Russia.
